Life in the United States from am Apple Geeking Nurse in the Vally
Apple announced their iPad mini and New Gen iPad 4 which leads to countless hours of research, investigating preferences and the sorting of pundits that you feel you can trust. Much reviews and personal opinions later, the iPad Mini became my own. I have a few amateur insights to this little apple jewel and some comparisons to my iPad3.
At first glance, I thought, how cute! I picked it up, flipping it in my hands, and fell deeply in love. Thinner and lighter is great for me. It will fit in the side pocket of my scrubs at work, always within reach for reference. It had adequate processing for the apps that I use the most, and the screen albeit missing retina, is fine. If you are a retina snob, move along.
After comparing the screen with my 3rd gen, I realized I never really raved over the retina on my 3. It was a simple case of form and function for me. I would carry the iPad when I didn't feel like packing up the Mac Air. It was more compact and slid into my bag nicely.
The mini is a game changer. It fits in a pocket, the jacket, a purse, and has great battery life. One handed use is a bonus and two thumb typing is a breeze.
Tomorrow it goes on a road trip. Time to try with a keyboard in a coffee shop, while eating and creating.
*sigh*
Last night was my last shift at the Prince for awhile. (You know all roads eventually lead back to Cheverly). I faciliated emotions between relief, release, joy, sadness, tears, and a few others I can't remember. I guess you take for granted that the ones you love are always going to be within reach.
Tonight, I head to Bowie for an 8 hr. shift. I used to joke that old PG nurses never die, they just schlep over to Bowie and rock it out. It'll be nice to do my final shift there and see some of the folks.
I think Jade is starting to figure out that some things are changing. Her neurosis is kicking in. She's heading to the vet Friday for her 'doggy prozac'. I hate to leave the guys with a depressed dog, lol.
Tomorrow I'm spending the day at GW to finalize the endless paperwork process. Most importantly, I'm setting up my direct deposit so I can get PAID!
So, on that note, type to you all soon!
Blogging and Dedication
When I first heard about blogging, I thought, "Who would want to spend every day posting their thoughts knowing that no one is going to read it anyhow?" Then suddenly, it dawned on me. Blogging is not only sharing information, it's cathartic. The medium allows a person to take the words and thoughts out of the head, clearing the clutter that accumulates just from living life as we all know it.
Today started as another typical Valley winter day, overcast skies, potential for snow, and a nurse that was entirely too tired after yet another 12 hour shift. Sleep was the priority that was rewarded with sunshine by the time my eyes opened. Dazed and cold, coffee became the instant priority.
Now that the brain is more clear, my thoughts flow back to the past few days of dealing with patients and co-workers alike. Attempting to understand and simplify the motivations of our fellow humans continues to elude me. More on that later.

Gadget Love
There is not a day that goes by that another gadget doesn't catch my eye. Thankfully, on behalf of my bank account, I have learned to discern what is just fluff and what I might be using a couple of years from now.
Everyone that knows me, knows that my first love is now Apple products. They just make things that WORK. I was so terribly resistant to change, talking smack about Apple, Steve Job's kool-aid, etc, etc...until I needed a laptop that didn't require constant virus updates, spam scanning, and lack of blue screen of death. I purchased my first Mac product and have not looked back. I am now the proud owner of an iPhone 4, an iPad 2, a Mac Book Pro, an iPod Nano, and a plethora of Apple branded accessories.
The Mac Book Pro was purchased in March of 2009. At two years old, it still works as well as it did off of the showroom floor. I still look at it in amazement when it boots up. It looks as svelte and sleek as it did when we met. I love not having to worry about maintenance, updates, viruses, and the mess that came along with owning a PC.
Another major reason I have gone "All Apple All The Time" is because of how well they play together in the sandbox. With the use of Mobile Me, all of my contacts, email, and calendar events remain in sync across the Mac Book, the iPad, and my iPhone. I input information once, and it's replecated and placed in it's respective place on all of my devices. I also enjoy the fact that I can use the same charger and cable for my small mobile devices. Everything just works.
If you are looking for a computer that just works, requires less drama, and will be around more than a year, I suggest you look to Apple Computers. Up next post: My biased review of the iPad 2.

Fall Vaca
Taking advantage of creative scheduling has allowed me to take a nice vaca with the family. Day one had me at home, sleeping, doing laundry, and packing. Day two was a nice drive from Albuquerque to Phoenix with some interesting temperature changes along the way. I rolled out of ABQ at 0505 with the outside temp saying it was 33 degrees. When I stopped in Gallup to rid myself of the Diet Cherry Coke and get fuel, the temp was a brisk 14 degrees. The next stop was in Camp Verde for fuel and coffee and things were looking up...it was a whopping 47 degrees. I arrived in Tempe to 72 degrees and a fresh ham sandwich composed by Unc.
After a few days in Phoenix, resting and relaxing, and eating Unc's good cooking, we are off to meet the rest of the family in Vegas! More to follow, with pictures, barring any complications:)

She's Baaaaccckkkkkk
I've gone from one type of desert to the other. The desert I'm in now, Albuquerque, NM is a far cry better than the other. Instead of being below sea level, I'm now more than a mile up in the air. Combating altitude sickness is the name of the game here...until you adjust. The weather is beautiful every day, the people are friendly, and the different cultures keep things interesting.
The hospital that I am at is conveniently located, has great/helpful staff, and an interesting clientele. Amazingly, I have yet to be called a bad name, slapped, or spit on. For a civilian hospital ER in this day and age, that is AMAZING!
I was lucky enough to participate in the International Balloon Fiesta by working in the First Aid section. Scott came to ABQ to visit and they put her to work. Aunt Garsha and Uncle Jim came in from AZ and good times was had by all!
